Default Please Clarify Which Skills Affect Which Items

Greetings! I'm sure this idea has probably been suggested before, but I would like to propose a system for saving players the stress of having to guess whether or not a skill they choose to upgrade does or does not affect the use of certain items.

For each branch of skills, such as Weaponry, Archery, Protection, Life Magic, Death Magic, Psych Magic, etc., I propose that Glitchless create a "Sticky" Post on the Forum which will explain the various skills in that branch, provide clearer wording, and state which items are included or excluded from the skills in that branch.

I understand that various skills do have some wording which explains them, but many skills have only vague descriptions, and several players disagree on what they actually do.

One example of a skill with some pretty clear wording (which is a good thing) is Critical Strike. It mentions "...slashing, crushing, and piercing attacks. This includes whips and staves..." The description of the skill clarifies which weapons are included in its effect.

An example of a skill with some questionable wording is Precision. Precision mentions "...slashing, piercing, and crushing weapons..." It does not explicitly say, "This includes whips and staves." Because of this, I have often asked players whether or not whips and staves are included in the effect. Some say yes, and some say no.

If it is the case that certain items are in fact excluded from the effect, the knowledge of that exclusion would save players the trouble of spending trophies in a skill they can't use because of their chosen build. Those same trophies could be directed to other skills which would actually help them.

An example of a skill with questionable wording to the point of being vague is Shared Bliss. The skill mentions "group based beneficial gems..." I was just asking myself today whether Flare Up and Flame Call count as "group based beneficial gems" or not. Surely they seem beneficial to the group using them, but they also hurt the opposing party. Furthermore, Red Magic is of the Death Magic branch, and Death Magic, as a matter of definition, harms rather than benefits.

I could ask the same question of the Aura of Thorns, Aura of Reflection, and healing gems which activate the Yellow Snow effect. Is the Aura of Thorns "beneficial" because it helps the party do more damage, or "detrimental" (such as in the Dark Knight class bonus, which refers to "detrimental auras") because it hurts the opposing party? What about the Aura of Reflection, with both lessens damage and harms the opposition? Is it both beneficial and detrimental?

Furthermore, what exactly is a "detrimental effect" as written in the Dark Knight class bonus?

Do gems that trigger the Yellow Snow skill count as "group based beneficial gems" because they heal the entire group? Are these gems strengthened by the Shared Bliss skill?

Questions like these have been floating around for a long while, and I feel like Glitchless could solve the problems of uncertainty by providing clarity in which skills affect which items, and which class bonuses affect which items, such as the "detrimental effects" mentioned earlier.

If Sticky Posts are made in the forum for each branch of skills, the posts could simply list each skill, and list each style of weapon, armor, or gem which is included in the skill.

There are a finite number of kinds of weapons, kinds of armor, and kinds of gems in the game, and I'm sure it would only take a few minutes to clear up the confusion so that players would not have to guess whether a skill will help them.

For gems especially, it would help to list (by name or something specific, not broad category) which gems are affected by Repel, Shared Bliss, Palisade, and Yellow Snow.

Also, when a DOT gem triggers a Rupture effect, does the effect "rupture" only DOT effects of the same color/distinction as the gem just cast, or does it rupture all DOTs currently in effect? I ask this because I have seen Green poison gems rupture the effects of previous Black poison gems and I'm confused about the wording of the Rupture skill.

If anyone has proposed this idea previously, I don't mean to needlessly repeat their point, but I think a lot of people would appreciate it if they could understand the "actual" effects of the skills in the game.

Or you could just test the skills on your own...

Migleyy, your consistency in all the replies you make to every single thread in these forums is remarkable - all of them both pointless and antagonistic.

I wonder why you bother replying at all.

On topic, I'm also unsure about Rabid Aura, whether it is beneficial, detrimental, or none.

It would be beneficial to the game to clarify every single tooltip of every skill and gem effect - but note that alot of these questions can easily be asked in game, and while unfortunately there will always be those, like Migleyy, who provide unhelpful info, there will inevitably be those who can and are willing to help you with your questions.

As such, and given the other pressing matters, I think this is one of the least important things to work on, regarding the game - at least for now.

I can clear up the rabid aura question. It is neither beneficial or detrimental.
Somewhere deep in these forums, Glitchless answered that one

i gave up reading around part way through, sorry.

a few things though.

with skills, unless it states it does not effect something, then its safe to assume that it does. precision for example effects all weapons (besides archery and gems).

beneficial auras are ones that are over your group, so aura of thorns is beneficial, as it effects you as seen as the icon is over your party.

detremental auras are ones that are over the enemy, so things like the devamps, sloth, etc.

in regards to the DK bonus, it effects detremental auras, effects and damage against players, which leads me to believe (i believe im right here based on small tests) that as a DK, anything that you do to cause harm, is given a bonus in PvP combat, including DoTs and melee damage.

rabid, as it effects both parties, is neither of the definitions, and is the only aura in the game, that does not get a boost from either pally or DK.

hope that helps a bit. if i missed stuff you asked about, its because i stopped reading before then

I agree descriptions could be a bit more to the point. BUT there are a lot of us vets that would be more than happy to help you. Some will give you ****, but others, like myself are more than happy to help. Stang in-game, you or anyone else feel free to add me. If I am here I will do my best to answer your question. If I don't know an answer I will find somebody who does.

The advantage to a newer player is, whatever you are trying to do has already been done, saving you the hassle of wasting time and trophies. Anyone that says "find out for yourself" I say "why don't you re-discover penicillin, the wheel, etc" EVERYONE here I have helped that tries to "pay" me, I just say pass it on, whether it's knowledge, a cheap tc, whatever.

Yeah, this forum has about the most useless search function Ive ever encountered.

For slow effects, use the slow % but as a negative.

Just repeat for multiple effects.

DO NOT multiply by 1+slow% to get your new delay. 1*1.4 is not the same as 1/0.6 and your answer will be wrong.
