Question How much do I have to invest as a new player?

Hello community

I ended up finding this on steam, played an hour or two and enjoyed the retro dungeons and dragons style appeal and wanted to look deeper into it.

My main concern is that there's people (albeit negative) that claim in order to play this game and be even somewhat competitive that you have to sink several paychecks to be viable.

Now, I'm all for contributing $5 for a subscription towards a game that I enjoy and play, but if my $5 subscription puts me at a disadvantage towards people who throw more money at the game, I don't think I'm going to stay.

So a couple questions:

1. Are players who don't sink money into the game at a casual & competitive disadvantage?

2. If you don't sink ludicrous amounts of money, will it take decades to catch up?

Yes and No, Everything is achievable without spending irl currency. however spending just speeds up how fast you can progress so its more an ease of life situation.

For instance if u drop 25$ for 4 months standard time, and gradually grind towards endgame it will take you a year or so to reach cap, i would guess if u played daily, and completed quests with grant u Rested time. but that wont put u nowhere near say me for instance, who hasn't spent anything in the last 2 - 3 years but has spent a fair amount.

it Comes down to time, the more time invested the more you will get out, but being a free account or just a simple standard account, you are kinda limited to what u can do on a daily basis. Can you play for free and achieve what some of us has done? in the current game market it would be difficult, slow but not impossible. this game inst for the faint of heart or the easy ride seekers. to catch up you need to invest a lot of time. most active people will have at least a year head start on you some will have 10. it isnt gonna happen over night. but if your looking for a game to invest a lot of time into and actually be apart of the community this game is for you.

Everything can be done without spending, but id at least suggest getting the paid upgrades as they hasten you progress a good margin. gotta keep in mind a decent xbox game costs 50$ and ur bored with it in about a week - 2 if its open world. iv been playing nod daily for the best part of the last 5 years and been here for 10. its a worth while investment if you enjoy the game.

Nod takes a long time no matter what.

Spending ludicrous amounts at the beginning can get you confused with rushing and frustrated because you can't accomplish what you want when you expect. Spending lightly in the beginning to warm the waters is nice. Over time, once you're addicted, you tend to spend some anyway.

Spending on Nod makes it's easier to take (speeds it up a bit), but does not in itself make you "good" or "competitive." It takes learning all the skills and gear then comprehending great ways to mash them together to become op across pvp. PVE is largely grind x(infinite number here) to be op.

Regardless, the game has been around for many years and has a fair amount of players that have played the entire time, so 'catching up' in certain ways would absolutely not happen for a long time. You can cap in a few months depending on how much you play and a bit of spending, but taking a lounge-y path to cap could take a couple of years especially with no spending. From cap is where you do your builds and work at being competitive. I'll also mention that once you've established a build and a bit of foundation on your toon(character) you'd be able to supplement the spending with gold earned in game.

So... Welcome to Nod! You can even transfer your toon to a non-steam type of account and make alt(s) too!

Nod is a grind, just a fun grind for the most part. It obviously makes sense that you can't just roll up and be immediately competitive with guys who've spent thousands of hours building their toons (and indeed many have spent thousands of dollars also).

Long story short, you can progress without spending cash, but

I'll be blunt :

If you serious about the game and willing to spend lots of time playing it and you are skilled gamer that catches things up pretty fast a $250 at front spending will go a long way .

Reason why :

You will receive 75 TC while 72 is needed to buy all 1 time upgrades that lasts life time (well worth it)

Running premium gives several perks including more daily rested time , saving rested time while not full health and allows you to use travel mode and get all benefits grinder offers.

I won't dump too much info at once but :

If Free player speed is 1 then fully upgraded premium is x 6 vs free.

In reality taking to account all other bonuses it's easily x10 .

Another good question to ask is whether or not there are actually any players at the top who haven't spent much at all (less than $10 a month). The answer: Yes, at the tippy top, even.

And then: but they've been playing forever, right? Answer: Nope.

While I won't encourage you to do so, new players have gotten strong quickly by making friends with caps who ultimately let them sit their accounts. Toonsharing is not recommended by the admin but it is not illegal.

Woah! That's crazy, so a free player is essentially playing 10 folds slower compared to those who do not have these perks?
I get it now, Nodiatis is more a time for money game, because time is money right?

It's cool that these upgrades are permenant besides the re-occuring premium account.

Okay, answer me this, say somebody were to start from level 1, invested $250 into an account and obtain everything you mentioned, how long would it take to reach cap given somebody played until their rested bar is gone each day?

Fair statement.

Would you say these top players spent a lot in one swoop, and don't need to spend as much now?

For me and majority of players here it takes about two weeks to cap an fully upgraded toon (varies depends of time played a day)

Some can do it in a matters of 1 day with assistance of their mains.

It's worth considering to sell 1TC so you can get heavy trophies and epic gear that will greatly speed up your kills .

Remember: at low levels rested time accumulates crazy fast because mission rewards therefore some maintenance is needed such raising skills allowing more rested time stored or simply save missions and do them knowing you will play long enough to burn rrt.

As a positive note once you build up your character you will be able to sustain time cards for in game currency and possibly build another one for free.

Once you up and running there is many ways to make gold . Gold chests is one of them but if you weak crafting and resourcing can be extremely profitable (potions for example is great money making strategy for upcoming toons )

As a pro tip: having grinder and premium is great for crafting .

As fully upgraded toon with premium doing crafting you getting exp x12 ! And it does NOT (yes you got it right) use your rested time !. As you can see even when you get low on rested time , there is plenty to do .

But wait ! There is more !😀
Once you deplete your rrt you can turn travel mode on and walk between towns getting FULL adventuring exp yet again not to spend second of RRT.

Finding a clan with good runes helps a lot .

I've spent a bit over time... i dont really need too anymore but i still bliss occasionally. Who he is refering to though I think, it's more about who you know, and how you play over anything. Keep in mind however if you truly wish to compete at the high end in pve or pvp you're going to need multiple sources of income in game. PErsonally I run something like 12 fully upgraded toons that have higher than most peoples mains gear. Takes a while to get setup, but once you have access to that kind of income the rest kind of becomes trivial. Playing at the top end is more about what you know than anything else.

Same, I've been playing from day 1 of Nod for the most part (took 2 year break). I've spent maybe $50 over the course of my lifetime here, but things in game were cheaper back then. Like Tsu, I also have about 10ish fully upgraded, high tiered toons and can sustain full perks from ingame purchases from AH.

It really just depends on your initial investment and how much time you want to devote towards Nod. (time is the huge key here). I'mm willing to help ya out some, but only when you get to lvl 20 :P
