Default Gems with Cantrip

When you activate a gem with cantrip, it is possible to grab the currently drawn gem to your hand before the cantrip trigger draws a new gem from your pouch. You can get the current gem effect, a gem in hand, and then have a newly drawn gem readied for you. This benefits a player who is agile with his mouse clicks.

The apparent bug I see is that the effect of the gem should be all or nothing, and it should be everything at once before a player can mouse click anything else.

This is a good bug report that will be rewarded with 15 TCs.
The mechanic you are explaining is actually built into the game. There is a small window of opportunity for a player to place the previous gem of their draw slot into play even after it has been replaced by a new gem. This is to prevent what is known as "butt frustration" when a player is in the process of moving a gem from their draw slot into play and a new gem is drawn. This can happen particularly frequently if the player suffers high latency and has a high draw speed.

However, in the case of cantrips, where the player is specifically causing the gem draw to take place as you have described, it is unrealistic for them to believe that they should be able to put the previous gem into play after it has been replaced. This mechanic could be exploited as you described in order to gain what is tantamount to a temporary extra gem slot of use should the person be agile enough.

This will be fixed shortly with a patch. Thank you for the report.

I hope you don't remove that 1-2 second "grace period" personally, with fast gem draw speed it's a bit difficult to keep up sometimes

We will not be removing the grace period.
