Competition Melee Guide
 
OK here goes i am going to run a couple of competitions. as the title says this is for Melee Guide.

Winning Guide will be voted on in forums.
Winning Guide will be posted on my forums and freewebs sites.
Winning Guide will recieve 10 TC for Xmas.
Glitchless are not involved in this and are not funding it either.
If anyone wants to contribute msg me in game.

What is required to be in your Guide.

Great competitions Flashus! I'd totally do it if I were level 70 instead of level 12. I love writing guides and I wrote a decent low level one for nod about a year ago. I am really looking forward to the pro's info on melee leveling. Always use some good tips.

A slight - but only slight - criticism of this project

Realistically, you need to BE level 80 to be able to write this guide, and at that level, you can make enough gold to purchase a TC pretty much every day (please, high level chars, don't bull***t that I'm wrong on that, as Roeth can, if selling trophies and drops, make 40k in gold a day, and he's level 34 on a standard account with accel)

My BM alt is level 20 right now, he can solo N dreads goat boss easily, with his single chippy and dual 21 whips, and a 20 suit (moderately enchanted)

Now, I don't claim to know all there is to know about building a BM, but I can say he has been 'N' all the time. The only help he has had from my main is with enchanting stones. The TCs for his virtues came from buying with game gold. His epic whips were picked up in stores.

Yet, according to the rules for these guides, my experience in building him is worthless, as he hasn't reached level cap, and I can't tell you what he will be soloing at level 30, never mind 80.

Instead, it's a case of 'gold and TCs regardless', twin polar bears, DW 92 whips, and spending millions on trophies to get Fire and Ice (and all the other) skills up to 90+.
ANYONE could build a BM that way, if they wanted to spend stupid sums of money on it. The 'art', so to speak, comes from doing it on a budget, thinking about what skills you are going to level, rather than buying 5 TCs, selling them for gold, and then buying trophies till your storage is full.

I'm sure my points made here will have wound up a few people, but it's probably those who think the 'stupid sums of money' approach is fine.

I agree with Roeth here but you got to understand something Roeth... This guide is supposed to let people know what approach they should go for when playing a melee char.

**** it, I know level 80s who have worthless chars cause they don't even know what skills to level and in what order. The idea is to tell people what each class needs most.

I am pretty sure that I can write a pretty good guide on any class even if my only two digit chars are a 62 warlock and a 13-14 guardian. You do not need to get to level 80 with a char to be aware of its needed build, just READ THE SKILLS and talk to other players who do have some experience and who dedicated some time to understanding the game mechanics.

Other than that, just let all worthless players (be them level 10, 40 or 80) begone. On account of my own vendetta, try to inspect Powaqa, RAGE member, look at her stats (as a warlock). Nothing more to say than that she is a disgrace to my character class.

Purely speculative

1.5 ( 100+player level) = str

That is the recommended amount of strength a melee SHOULD have.

prerequisite:
mob without an ironclad rune attached
non crit hit
(for sake of simplicity, no skills adding to max)

You are lv 24 and you got a ZC. You enter combat with a WHITE mob and you only have 154 strength.

ZC is 93 in max damage.

first, the multiplier is..

x(100+24)=154

or 1.242

93(1.242) = 115.506 maximum noncritical damage. Not sure if it rounds up or down.


if you've 152 str at a lv 30, and the maximum on your weapon is 50, your weapon multiplier WILL NOT be 1.0122 on a gray mob. A rat for example, would get hit with a multiplier of x in this equation..

x(100+1)=152
(100 + 1) because the rat is lv 1

the equation claims that the multiplier is 1.504. That can't be because 1.5 is the absolute maximum would have

On yellows, orange, red, purple, and black mobs. You CANNOT hit with a multiplier of exactly 1.5. Damage reduction comes into play because they're a higher level.

Disclaimer: Higher strength means higher average damage.

If you find that this formula doesn't show the exact multiplier...
  1. Level up your crush/slash/pierce skill so there's no damage penalty
  2. Consider the armor class of your pvp opponent
  3. Some mobs wear ironclad runes now
  4. Hits should be noncrit for the sake of simplicity
  5. Crush spec, class, slash spec, deathblow, etc affects damage

Again, purely speculative but this will be how I distribute my caster's int and str.



P.S. Not sure if it applies to archers but I'm guessing the total int and cnc should = 370. It would be nice if somebody could test this out.

klippi you're basically right...and fyi added str does increase avg damage. also for bows...it's the same formula as str is for whip/crush/slash/staff and int for DDs, cept it's for 2 stats. As you put it: x(200+2*mob lvl)=(int+cnc). x can cap at 1.5 again. Max you need is 360x1.5=540 total cnc + int(assuming lvl 80 mob).

However...i think this was the wrong thread to put it in...at least the detailed explanation in a thread for guides...even if you were explaining why a certain amount of strength.

Char Class = Vampire
Weapon Type: Either Slashing or Crushing
Build Type: Majority Melee/ Def. It does litle use for one to go past 600 in one's stats. 147/15/145/13 to 147/20/152/1 (end distribution) <-- melee, magic, def, recovery respectively. If a Crusher: ALL STR (but every few levels, maybe 3-5, depending on demand) increase one's PSt by 1 point and devote 2 to str.
If a slasher: 2 to str, 1 to dex, same rules for PSt, which will be seldom needed.
For a vampire: of this variety, approximately 33% of your defence should be allocated to agility (agi), 40% percent should be allocated to durability, and the remaining 27% should be allocated to contravention, a vampire's lowest defence stat.
How to determine if this is working for you?
For ever 10 levels in defence, 12/30 points should go to dur, 10/30to agi, 8/30 to cnt

Strategy lvl 1-19
Stats to distribution: bottom out your int, in favor of solely str (if a crusher), or str and dex (if you are a slasher)
Skills: you want your skills in weaponry and protection to equal your level, excluding piercing (and whatever weapon discipline you are not using), skills such as hemorrhage, 2h, Overcrit, Critical Strike, and the weapon discipline you are NOT using, mey be lower. In the Magic section, focus on leveling your levels in the COLOR magics. (Most importantly, white and green for healing/ auras, then blue and gray for shields and resistance auras (which you may find use for later). Lastly, red and black magic Red is generally negligable as there are no important auras for a meleer in there, but BLACK is less negligable because the development of this skill allows you to use the Black Detrimental aura "aura of lethargy" which can prove useful on monsters with concentration. Your sorcery, diabolism, and mind bending, you want to keep your sorcery, diabolism, and mindbending to about 55 percent of your level AT MINIMUM, sorcery will become increasingly important later along with gem handling. Use healing gems such as "sylvain restoration" and "gradual healing" which can be bought in the INNS in towns. You also want to get your Wizardry and Gem handling (psych magic) up to 10. This way, you can carry multiples of the same gems in a pouch (and not end up with a pouch full of escape potions), and you can have a SECOND pouch that can be used for solely escaping.

PETMANSHIP: Have your petmanship to 10 by level 10, and by level 19 have it at 18. This is a build that does not use whips, so skills that use whips are of no use to you.

Equipment: work your way up through the ranks until you hit the 11 armor. If you can't afford 13, pass on to 14, then 16. YOU MUST AVOID 17. 19 is exactly like 16, except it provides a mild str bonus. If you manage to get acquire bloodclaws, use them if you are a slasher. Otherwise a bone bound warclub (level 12 2h crusher) should do you right until later. If you cannot afford those then work your way up the uncommon level equipment, but be warned, there are not many CRUSHING weapons along this path.
Area you should be fighting in at lvl 19: You really should have finished the Petrified Forest by now. The North Passage should be adequate for you
Boss you should be able to solo: with testudo you may be able to solo the boss of the North Passage
Enchantments to aim for. Increase your Strength (if a crusher) or Strength and Dexterity (if a slasher).

Area you should be in at lvl 39: Glacial River.
Boss you should be able to solo: Glacial River boss.
Enchantments to aim for: Same as level 1-19

Roughly what Equipment you should be using: you should be able to ride your 25/36's/39's (what have you) out until 44 (or 45 if you get it/ can afford it) until level 45, at which point you should (if you have money once more) work your way to the 48's, (or) the 50 set. by level 59, you should have either the 58's, or the 50s
As for weapons: work your way up through the epics, or if you lack money for the epics, choose the weapon that has the a mix of accuracy and damage for your level. Choose no weapon below the accuracy of "good", except maybe the level 42 slasher.
Area you should be in at lvl 59: Geyser Valley
Boss you should be able to solo: Sea lion tyrant, may be difficult.
Enchantments to aim for: same as usual, str/dex up, int down, if your int hit's 50 at this point, you'll have to drain your cnc, if your cnc becomes too low as well, you'll have to stop using dot's and the aura of lethargy.
