how does a shield block?

is it based on a stat or is it just a chance thing like 50% of the time it stops a hit?

Each time you attack something, a poodle is dropped into a cage with an alligator and must run 5 feet to reach a small exit. If the 'gator grabs the poodle your attack is blocked, but if the dog escapes your attack succeeds. With two shields equipped, two poodles are dropped each attack. As you might imagine, there are not many poodles left in the area of Florida where Jeff is located

poodles?! darn i guess he ran out of puppies. oh wait I got them mixed up....you (jimcav) kill puppies and Jeff kills puddles. That helps, thanks... that means later on in the battle the alligator is getting full so the chance that your shields will block goes down at the end of a long battle.
